Natsume Akatsuki wrote the original web novel series for Shōsetsuka ni Narō from the 20th of December 2012 to the 21st of October 2013. The official light novel version with illustrations by Kurone Mishima was released under Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko from the 1st of October 2013 to the 1st of May 2020.
Kazuma Satou is a Japanese teenage shut-in who chooses Aqua as his companion despite her absent-mindedness. He forms a party with Megumin, an explosion-obsessed magician, and Darkness, a masochistic crusader. These four members possess dysfunctional abilities that prevent them from defeating the Devil King.
The first season aired on Tokyo MX from January 14 to the 16th of March 2016 and was produced by Studio Deen. A second season followed from January 12 to the 16th of March 2017, while the third season titled KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! ran from April 6 to the 22nd of June 2023.
By November 2021, the novels had a total circulation of 10 million copies. The series reached 6.5 million copies in print by February 2019 and ranked first among top selling digital manga and light novels worldwide by BookWalker in January 2018.
A mobile gacha RPG titled KonoSuba Fantastic Days launched for iOS and Android devices on the 27th of February 2020 before service ended on the 30th of January 2025. Other titles include a visual novel adaptation released on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 on the 7th of September 2017 and a Nintendo Switch port released on the 17th of December 2020.
