Jiangsu is a coastal province in East China with its capital at Nanjing. It borders Shandong to the north, Anhui to the west, and Zhejiang and Shanghai to the south, with a coastline of more than 1000 km along the Yellow Sea.
Jiangsu has a population of 84.75 million, making it the fourth most populous of China's twenty-two provinces and the most densely populated. By the end of 2021 the total population was 85.05 million.

A ranking released in early 2023 by the Cross Dependency Initiative named Jiangsu the most climate-vulnerable region in the entire world, due to its flat terrain, low altitude, and dense population. The local speed of sea level rise exceeds the global average by a large margin.
