Jagat Gosain was born Manavati Bai in 1573 and became the Empress Consort of Mughal Emperor Jahangir. She served as the linchpin holding together the relationship between the Mughal Empire and the powerful Rajput clans through her marriage to Prince Salim.
Jagat Gosain was born on the 13th of May 1573 as Manavati Bai. She was the daughter of Raja Udai Singh and a Rajput princess from Marwar.

Jagat Gosain commissioned the Kanch Mahal at Sikandra and founded the village of Sohagpura dedicated to glass bangle manufacturing. The area known as Taj Ganj in Agra is also said to be named in her honor.
