Thomas Boleyn inherited the property in 1505 after his father died and lived there with his wife Lady Elizabeth Howard. Their three children George, Mary, and Anne spent their early years within these historic walls before Anne left for the Habsburg Netherlands in 1513.
King Henry VIII took possession of Hever Castle following Thomas Boleyn's death in 1539. He granted the estate to Anne of Cleves in 1540 as part of their divorce settlement.
William Waldorf Astor purchased the deteriorating castle in 1903 and began extensive repairs. He added the Tudor village known as the Astor Wing and constructed an Italian Garden to display his personal collection of statuary and ornaments.
Hever Castle served as a filming location for the 2020 drama-thriller series called The Third Day. Scenes from the second season of Star Wars Andor were shot here doubling for Naboo and it was previously used for Star Wars: Episode I , The Phantom Menace production.
