Fresh Air began daily national broadcasts in 1987. A weekly half-hour edition had been distributed nationally by NPR since 1985, but the program originated as a local Philadelphia show at WUHY (later WHYY) in 1975.
Fresh Air is hosted by Terry Gross and Tonya Mosley. Gross has been with the show since September 1975, when she took over as presenter and producer. Mosley was named co-host in 2023, having previously co-hosted WBUR's Here & Now.
