Three young brothers from Atlanta named Solomon Olds, Joshua Olds, and Jacob Olds formed the group in 1994 under the name The Brothers. Their father Jerome Olds produced their first two albums before the lineup expanded to include Brad Allen and Nathan Currin.
Copyright issues with Prince's band The Family forced another name change in 2004. The new identity became Family Force 5, marking the start of a career that would span multiple genres and label shifts.
On the 19th of August 2008, they issued Dance or Die which sold 17,000 copies in its first week and debuted at number 30 on the Billboard 200. By January 2009, sales had exceeded 50,000 units.
