Elizabeth Blount, born around 1500 and died in 1540, was a mistress of Henry VIII of England. She is significant as the mother of Henry FitzRoy, the only illegitimate child Henry VIII ever publicly acknowledged. Katherine of Aragon had endured at least seven pregnancies, but their daughter Mary was the only child to survive infancy, leaving the king without a legitimate male heir. In the 1520s, some at court proposed that FitzRoy be named the king's legal heir, though nothing came of the suggestion.
After the affair ended around 1519, Elizabeth Blount married Gilbert Tailboys, 1st Baron Tailboys of Kyme, in 1522 and settled in Lincolnshire, where she had three children. After Tailboys' death in 1530, she married Edward Clinton, 9th Baron Clinton, between 1533 and 1535, becoming Elizabeth Fiennes. She later served as a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Cleves and as a Great Lady of the Household to Katherine Howard.
Elizabeth Blount died shortly after July 1540. Tradition attributes her death to consumption, the same illness that had killed her son Henry FitzRoy in 1536. She was not buried beside either of her husbands.
