Dimps was founded on the 6th of March, 2000 by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto, along with other former SNK and Capcom employees. Nishiyama is known as a co-creator of Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and The King of Fighters.
Dimps stands for "Digital Multi-Platforms". The company was originally named Sokiac before adopting the Dimps name to better reflect its goal of developing games across a variety of genres and platforms.
Dimps is headquartered in Osaka, Japan, with an additional office in Tokyo. Nishiyama chose Osaka specifically to avoid requiring his core team members and their families to relocate.
Dimps is best known for developing games in the Sonic the Hedgehog, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter franchises. Key titles include Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Street Fighter IV, and multiple entries in the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush series.
