Daigo Umehara is a Japanese esports player who specializes in 2D arcade fighting games, primarily Street Fighter titles by Capcom. He holds a Guinness World Record for being the most successful player in major Street Fighter tournaments and has won the Evolution Championship Series six times. He is widely regarded as the greatest Street Fighter player of all time.
In the loser's finals of the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike tournament at Evo 2004, Daigo Umehara parried all fifteen hits of Justin Wong's Chun-Li Super Art while at his final pixel of vitality, then countered and won the match. The clip became the most-watched competitive gaming clip of its time and has been called the most important fighting game moment of all time.
Daigo Umehara has won the Evolution Championship Series six times. He also became the first player to win both the Super Battle Opera and the Evolution Championship in the same year on the same game, accomplishing both in 2003 with Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

In December 2015, Umehara announced he would donate the entirety of his Capcom Pro Tour 2015 Finals winnings, a sum of $60,000, to the Evo Scholarship at the NYU Game Center at the Tisch School of the Arts. The NYU Game Center confirmed the donation on the 6th of January 2016.
