D. P. Roy Choudhury was an Indian sculptor, painter and educator, born on the 15th of June 1899 and rated by many as one of the major figures of Indian modern art. He served as principal of the Madras School of Art from 1929 to 1957 and is best known for the bronze sculptures Triumph of Labour and Martyrs' Memorial.

The Martyrs' Memorial is a life-sized bronze group of seven young men who died in the Quit India Movement trying to raise the national flag on the Patna Secretariat building. Rajendra Prasad unveiled the memorial in October 1956.

D. P. Roy Choudhury created Gyarah Murti, a monumental sculpture based on the Dandi March installed at the junction of Sardar Patel Marg and Teen Murti Marg in New Delhi in 1982. Its image later appeared on India's 500 rupee currency note.
