CONCACAF was founded on the 18th of September 1961 in Mexico City, Mexico, through the merger of the North American Football Confederation (NAFC) and the Confederación Centroamericana y del Caribe de Fútbol (CCCF). Thirteen nations were founding members, including Canada, Mexico, the United States, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, and others.
CONCACAF has 41 member associations, organized into three zones: the North American Football Union with 3 members, the Central American Football Union with 7 members, and the Caribbean Football Union with 31 members.

The United States is the only CONCACAF member to have won all three major worldwide competitions in women's football: the World Cup four times, the Olympic Games five times, and the Algarve Cup ten times.
Club América and Cruz Azul, both from Mexico, share the record with seven CONCACAF Champions Cup titles each. Mexican clubs overall have accumulated 36 titles in the competition, the most of any country, and a combined 47 titles across all CONCACAF club competitions.
