C.F. Monterrey was founded on the 28th of June 1945, near the end of World War II, by a group of industrial businessmen headed by Ramón Cárdenas Coronado, Enrique Ayala Medina, Paul C. Probert, Rogelio Cantú Gómez and Miguel Margáín Zozaya.
C.F. Monterrey is nicknamed Rayados because of its traditional navy blue striped uniform. The club adopted the vertical stripe pattern in 1965 after seeing it worn by Tampico Madero, nicknamed the Jaibas Bravas, and the design has defined the team's crest ever since.
C.F. Monterrey has been owned by FEMSA since 1999.
C.F. Monterrey has won five Liga MX titles and three Copa MX titles domestically, plus five CONCACAF Champions League titles and one CONCACAF Cup Winners Cup internationally. C.F. Monterrey plays its home matches at the Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, which has a capacity of 53,500. The club moved there in July 2015 after playing at the Estadio Tecnológico from 1950 to 2015.
