On the 13th of December 1776, General Charles Lee visited Widow White's tavern in Basking Ridge and rode there with only a minimal guard while searching for female sociability. Banastre Tarleton led the 16th Queen's Light Dragoons to capture him the following morning.

William Annin Middle School opened its doors on the 28th of September 1969 after construction began in 1968. Named for a colonial patriot who settled there in 1722, the facility contains grades six through eight today.
