Todd Douglas Miller directed, produced, and edited the 2019 documentary Apollo 11. The project originated from a suggestion by British archival producer and film editor Stephen Slater, who proposed making a film to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
In May 2017, a collaboration between Miller's production team, NASA, and the National Archives and Records Administration uncovered unreleased 70 mm footage of the Apollo 11 mission. The large-format footage includes scenes from Launch Complex 39, the Saturn V launch, spectators at the launch site, the recovery of the astronauts and command module Columbia, and post-mission activities aboard the USS Hornet.
Apollo 11 grossed $15 million at the box office. Its opening weekend earned $1.6 million from 120 IMAX theaters, and the film was released theatrically in the United States by Neon on the 1st of March 2019.

At the 72nd Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the film won three prizes, including Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program, which recognized Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins for footage they captured during the mission.
Todd Douglas Miller built the film around a direct cinema approach, using only audio and footage from the original 1969 mission. The final film contains no voice-over narration or interviews beyond what was available in the contemporary source material.
Matt Morton composed the score for Apollo 11, using only electronic instruments that were available in 1969. The seventeen-track album was released worldwide by Milan Records, with the digital download version appearing on the 8th of March 2019.
