Blondie formed in 1974 and was originally billed as Angel and the Snake before settling on the name Blondie by October 1974. The name originated from truck drivers shouting Hey Blondie to a waitress in a Playboy Bunny outfit at the Mercer Arts Center in Manhattan.
Blondie achieved their first international success in Australia when a television producer accidentally played the video for In the Flesh on the music program Countdown in 1977. The song reached number two on the charts and provided the momentum needed to secure a deal with Chrysalis Records in September 1977.

Drummer Clem Burke died of cancer on the 6th of April 2025 exactly fifty years after first joining Blondie. The new studio album High Noon will be released in the spring of 2026 and features drums recorded by Burke before his death.
